Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
