A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the man had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
