Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told his interviewer: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
