Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
