Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
