Although People in Germany have long held an image as Europe's keenest nudists, fresh research indicates that Danes are both more accepting regarding undressing in open spaces, but also more prone to have actually done so.

Study Details

This extensive survey included 6 European nations – United Kingdom, Denmark, France, the German state, Italy and Spain. Findings showed that participants from Denmark emerged as most inclined to declare that public nudity was entirely appropriate – plus to have followed through.

General Attitudes Throughout European Nations

The survey indicated that just twelve percent of Danish respondents had been naked in designated clothing-optional areas like beaches or campsites. This was higher than British participation at six percent, paralleled France's rates at fourteen percent along with Italy's at eleven percent, but fell below Spain's 22% plus Germany's twenty-five percent.

Openness to Future Nudity

Danish respondents furthermore expressed greater willingness to participate in stripping off in open spaces prospectively. Approximately 50% declared they would consider to strip off in a public setting, compared with 42% of German respondents, 38% of respondents from Spain, thirty-four percent of French people along with twenty-nine percent of both UK residents plus Italian participants.

Population Differences

In all participating states, men showed higher willingness compared to female participants toward being naked publicly. Demographic differences also emerged: Among Danes, younger generations were more accepting to naturism, whereas in the German context the opposite pattern emerged.
