That Gory Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Viewers

Among every adult-oriented animated films I have personally viewed, no other has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director created a dark, melancholy and frequently brutal universe with a few small , desolate hints of hope.

Although Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a drive to expand the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was actually a try to convey a global, multicultural theme regarding “the shared root of all wars.”

This theme is communicated via a band of colorful pastel bears , openly modeled after a well-known line of cuddly characters.

Being raised in a culture centered on warmongering and the military-industrial complex, numerous these animals are consumed by exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a holy book which states them they were once rulers of the woodland, until these creatures forced them out.

Others have not completely bought into the brainwashing, and would rather sample narcotics or fornicate in the woods.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these bright beings have visible sexual organs , definite urges.

For a certain particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns turns into a route to power — and especially to dominance above his gentler, nicer brother Tubby.

The character is a bully and an obvious psychopath , and as terror overcomes his squad and claims his fellow soldiers sequentially, he seizes more and more control for himself, in increasingly bloody, destructive ways.

At the same time, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, as an expanding, destructive monster in their habitat.

“Initially, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “But then it becomes a more dramatic and sorrowful film. And ultimately, it becomes a terrifying movie.”

Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more playful movies from a renowned filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Then it turns into more akin to a darker movie from the same artist, including ever more graphic violence , a tangible connection to the actual tragedy of conflict.

In the finale, it is a full-on extreme drama carnage.

The fear that makes the film a Halloween-friendly movie starts a lot earlier than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who want to see a film they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and who can handle a plot which delivers absolutely no punches.

View it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and the finale will burrow under your skin and linger.
