The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I'd choose in that spot other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
