NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates features text commentary of Sunday's games on various channels, beginning with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage is available on select stations for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , following recent discussion regarding two top teams being a potential Super Bowl match-up, each surrendered their perfect starts.
Notable in those games was the number of penalties each conceded. Philadelphia committed them in key moments so they essentially beat themselves after leading 17-3 going into the fourth period versus Denver, set to play in London this Sunday.
However it proved positive to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie was able to overcome the shortfall and then lead three successful possessions in three attempts during the final period, securing the victory 21-17.
Denver have the defensive player of the year with cornerback their star corner. They rank first in goal-line defense, while Philadelphia are number one in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos won that contest.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily sending extra defenders instead they might position two linebackers in the interior before withdrawing them and dispatch a slot defender from the outside.
At the start in the campaign, it was noted on a program that the Broncos could be this season's dark horses. They finished the previous year well then did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this year's dark horses?
New tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly while recent RB their rusher is a player the team trusts. He's currently fifth in the NFL in ground gains (over 400) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (four).
I love how the coach Sean Payton has "RUSH!" at the top on his call sheet.
This demonstrates that Denver represent a team aiming to prioritize the run, since one can achieve much off the back of that. It reduces opposing rushes while maintains in favourable situations.
It's also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert possess the arm strength to pass all over, but they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He has incredible passing ability, a unique trait, and he's highly agile.
His strengths are his mobility, being able to pass on the run, as well as finding different arm angles to make throws when he rolls outside protection, the bootlegs. He can throw precision throws across the middle and past defenders.
For a young quarterback, at 25, he's got a lot of poise under pressure and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He tries to avoid a sack whenever possible and is able throw under pressure. He has a high football IQ and remains very decisive.
When you constantly rush it consumes time and makes the opponent to be on the field for longer, and if you've got an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the area vertically and horizontally. It can be exhausting.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and it seems Payton appreciates that fire, that he's such a competitor. In my view it's fun for the coach to coach a young quarterback that is kind of like play-dough. He can really build something up the way he desires to build it. I think it's a special experience for the coach.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and now passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the achievements the Broncos are having offensively is largely due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids shape him into who he is.
There's no better a better guy guiding you, to help you through some of the tougher situations and build confidence.
I believe in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to face a top squad at its best? Because that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're working better than most, which is a solid position to hold their division. The key is to continue this path.
They're really good at leaning into their forte, that is running the ball, and this is exactly what they must do against the Jets in London. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
New York have allowed 140 yards on the ground each contest (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad without a win a game.
Since the NFL started recording turnovers decades ago, this team are also the first team to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach Aaron Glenn a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
After this Sunday's game, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule until their bye (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders before the Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs hold a losing record while Denver are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the division.
It depends on which form of the Chiefs they meet since Denver {beat|def
